Her name is Aline.

She is 14 years old. She was walking to school in Rutshuru when the first gunshots rang out. By nightfall, her village had burned, and she had lost both her parents. Now, she walks for hours each day in search of food in a crowded displacement camp with over 50,000 others. Her dream of becoming a teacher is now a distant echo!

The conflict that recently erupted in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) exacerbates the already lethal situation and severe humanitarian crisis in Goma (Eastern DRC) resulting in many displaced people and loss of so many lives.

The Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) has been ravaged by a silent war for the past 30 years that has caused untold and devastation to the men, women and children of Goma. To date over 6 million deaths (Global Conflict Tracker, 2025) have been accounted for. This ongoing war in DR Congo is perceived to be the deadliest war in the human history since the Second World War.

The situation is dire, with widespread reports of homelessness, famine, the spread of cholera and Ebola and sexual violence, particularly against children.

We, the diaspora Congolese community of Melbourne Victoria - Australia, who cannot remain silent in the face of the crisis unfolding in our homeland. We are committed to raising funds to support those infected on the ground.
