My name is Lebert, and Daniel Town, Jamaica, is where my heart will always be.
I was born and raised there, surrounded by the warmth, strength and high community spirit that makes our little town so special. Although, I've lived in the UK since I was 14 years old, my roots and my family remain in Daniel Town.
Recently, the community was devastated by Hurricane Melissa. The aftermath has left many families struggling to survive and rebuild. My family's roof was completely turn off along with many others, leaving them exposed to the elements. The local church - once a place of faith, gathering and comfort - now lies in complete rubble. Across the town, fallen palm trees block roads, power lines hang dangerously, and sheets of zinc roofing are scattered everywhere. Electricity is still out, and daily life has become a fight to find hope again.
Despite the destruction, the people of Daniel Town remain strong and united - but they need help to rebuild.
How your Donations Will Help:
Rebuild Homes - purchase zinc sheets, lumber, nails and other materials to repair roofs and structures damaged or destroyed by the hurricane.
Restore the Community Church - help clear debris and continue to rebuilding what has always been the heart of the town.
Support electrical restoration - help provide resources to safely remove downed power lines and reconnect essential services.
Provide basic relief supplies - water (which is currently having to be collected and boiled to make safe), food packages, tarpaulins, and emergency items for families who have lost so much.
If Daniel Town or anywhere in Jamaica has ever touched your life, or if you simply believe in the power of community and resilience, please consider donating or sharing.
One Love, One Community, One Jamaica.
