Hello, my name is Ash. I’m a long-time mutual aid organizer in our area—food distro, rides, emergency financial aid, pop-up free stores. I’m proud of the work we’ve done together. Now I’m the one who needs the net. I’m $10,000 short on closing costs due Oct 17th. If I miss this, I lose the chance at stable housing and risk homelessness. I’ll post redacted docs and receipts; any amount or share helps.
Full story
This October I have a chance to move from housing instability into a safe, stable home for me/my family/pets. The loan is approved, inspection and appraisal are scheduled, and I’m ready to close—except I’m short on closing costs.
For mutual-aid folks (and anyone who’s seen me around)
You know me. I’ve spent years doing the unglamorous logistics—cooking, packing, tabling, delivering, and signal-boosting fundraisers—so neighbors get what they need. I don’t say that to flex; I say it so you know I’m not new here. Right now I’m asking for the same solidarity I try to show others. Help me clear this last hurdle so I can stay housed and keep doing the work—just from a stable home base.
Why I’m short (the quick version)
The past few months hit like dominos:
Medical emergencies with out-of-pocket costs I couldn’t avoid
Hot water heater failure that flooded and wiped out my savings buffer
Partner’s unemployment gap, cutting our household income
A pileup of unexpected fees and repairs tied to staying barely afloat
I trimmed expenses, sold what I could, picked up extra shifts, and asked for payment plans. This is the last piece I can’t cover in time for the deadline.
Where the money goes (transparent breakdown)
Amounts are estimates and will be updated as I get them.
Escrow/Title & recording fees — $1,800
Lender/Origination & appraisal — $1,800
Title insurance — $1,000
Prepaids (insurance, taxes, interest, escrow cushion) — $2,800
Utility deposits & basic safety setup — $500
Processing-fee buffer — $350
Emergency cushion to stabilize after medical bills, hot water heater failure, and income gap — $1,750
Total: $10,000
(I’ll upload my redacted Loan Estimate/closing disclosure so you can see the line items.)
Why this matters
Housing stability changes everything: safer nights, consistent routines, and the capacity to keep showing up for community. This isn’t about “deserving”—it’s about preventing a preventable crisis and keeping one more family housed.
Proof & updates
I’ll post:
Redacted docs (Loan Estimate, closing date notice)
Receipts for anything paid
Short, factual updates at 25% / 50% / 75% / funded / closed
If we fall short or go over
Short: I’ll prioritize the most time-sensitive closing items (escrow/title) and explain the plan.
Over: Anything beyond closing costs covers immediate move-in basics (utility deposits, safety items). I’ll document it.
Thank you for treating this like we treat everything in mutual aid: practical, transparent, neighbor-to-neighbor.
In Solidarity
- Ash
