Ololo Foundation St John's School meal program
Donation protected
St. John's School, founded by Josiah Munyutu in 2002, is situated in Kibera, Africa's largest slum, comparable in size to New York's Central Park and housing nearly 1 million people. The school, started to aid orphans, street children and the impoverished, now educates over 400 students. Ololo Foundation is continually working to improve conditions for the students at this school.
Kibera's residents face severe poverty, with many earning less than $1.00 daily, leading to high unemployment and children frequently attending school hungry. To combat this, St. John's has initiated a feeding program in collaboration with Ololo Lodge and Farm, ensuring every student receives a meal to support their learning. The program benefits from low-cost ingredients supplied by ‘Farm to Plate,’ making each meal cost about 10 Kenyan Shillings (10c AUD). A contribution of $3,000 to $5,000 could provide 30,000 to 50,000 meals, significantly aiding the school's effort to improve student well-being and education.
