Hi my name is Kurt Gidley from Newcastle, NSW, Australia.
On Tuesday the 7th of May, a group of my former rugby league teammates & community members will challenge ourselves with a 360+km ride from Newcastle to Tamworth via the Barrington Tops Mountain Range in honour of GAND AID.
GAND stands for GATAD2B - associated neurodevelopmental disorder, also referred to as GAND Syndrome, it is a rare genetic condition with approx. 355 people diagnosed in the world.
GAND affects the development of the brain leading to intellectual disability, low muscle tone, feeding and speech difficulties, motor planning amongst other symptoms.
GAND AID’s Mission is: “To raise awareness, support individuals and families, collaborate on medical research projects to then hopefully find the best possible treatments available for the patients.
At present there is NO cure or treatment opportunities for GAND, we want to change that!”
We are all very proud and committed to playing our part in raising awareness & funds for GAND AID’s Founders- my former teammate Brian Carney, Rebecca, Orla and most importantly, little Shea.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Kurt Gidley + Newcastle Knights Old Boys
