Ohana Suite - University Hospital Wishaw
Donation protected
Our beautiful baby boy Callan was born a sleeping angel on the 19th May 2025 at 2:34am in the Ohana Suite at University Hospital Wishaw.
The Ohana Suite is a dedicated bereavement suite for parents who have experienced the loss of their baby. It's a quiet, private space designed to allow families to spend time with their child away from the main labor ward and other patients.
The suite has a double bed, living area, kitchenette, and en-suite, a little home away from home whilst you spend time with your precious little one. Callan was able to stay with us in a cold cot, and we could have as many visitors as we wanted, any time day or night.
The midwives looking after us were amazing, we wanted for nothing whilst we were there. Their genuine care, love, and compassion really helped us through the hardest time of our lives, and they always managed to help us smile.
They provided us with a memory box filled with lots of things including a blanket and matching comforters (1 for us and 1 for Callan), and they helped us make memories with Callan that will last a lifetime such as bathing him, changing him, and taking his handprints and footprints in both ink and clay. They even provided us with mummy and daddy boxes with sweets and toiletries.
They took photos of everything on their Ipad, and arranged for a charity photographer to come and take some professional photos, so we can cherish the memories forever.
They also arranged for the hospital chaplin Harry to come and perform a naming ceremony which was just beautiful, and they put us in touch for the funeral directors.
On our last day they even gave us an angel teddy weighing the same as Callan when he was born, 7lb 7oz, and gave little bears to my family who were visiting at the time.
We are hoping to raise some money to help them to continue offering these services and extra touches to other bereaved families experiencing a loss of their little one as everyone deserves to feel this level of care during the hardest time of their life.
