Five years ago, in the heart of the village of Jimba, in Kenya, a dream began to take shape.

Victoria Academy was born thanks to the trust, support, and love of so many people who believed in this project and helped make it a reality. With your help, what once seemed like just an idea has turned into something tangible: six spacious classrooms, eight bathrooms, a kitchen, two offices, a playground, a well, and a connection to the water supply. And recently, thanks to the generosity of more volunteers, electricity has also arrived.

The original plan was to create a school that could sustain itself over time. Tourism, with its magic and steady flow of visitors drawn to the wonders of this land, from the white beaches to the african savannah, could not hesitate to visit the school: those who came often brought essential goods and sometimes left a small financial contribution. Meanwhile, the children’s parents, through a small monthly fee, would have helped support the purchase of the food for lunches, teachers’ salaries, cook's salary and management costs.

But sometimes, life takes unexpected turns.

The pandemic changed the world, disrupting the delicate balance on which the school relied. Over time, traveling to this region has become more complicated and expensive, while the cost of living has risen, making it even harder for local families to meet their daily needs.

A lot has changed in Europe as well, and I know these years have brought challenges for everyone.

Because of this, as I considered how to move forward, I found myself hesitating.

I wondered if this was the right moment to ask for help again.

But then I looked into the children’s faces, thought about their future, and about the importance of giving them a safe place to grow, the certainty of at least one meal a day, and the joy of learning together.

And so, this new fundraising campaign begins.

Not to build something new, but to protect what we have created together.

To ensure that such a beautiful dream does not fade away.

Because, just like five years ago, every small act of kindness can make a difference.

Cinque anni fa, nel cuore del villaggio di Jimba, nell'entroterra del Kenya, ha iniziato a prendere forma un sogno.

Victoria Academy è nata grazie alla fiducia, al sostegno e all’amore di tante persone che hanno creduto in questo progetto e lo hanno reso possibile.

Grazie a voi, ciò che un tempo sembrava solo un’idea si è trasformato in una realtà concreta: sei ampie aule, otto bagni, una cucina, due uffici, un campo da gioco, un pozzo e il collegamento all’acquedotto.

E, con il contributo di altri volontari, di recente è arrivata anche l’elettricità.

L’idea iniziale era quella di creare una scuola che potesse sostenersi nel tempo.

Il turismo, con la sua magia e il suo flusso costante di visitatori affascinati dalle meraviglie di questa terra, dalle spiagge bianche alla savana africana, non avrebbe esitato dal passare di qua: chi arrivava portava beni di prima necessità e, talvolta, lasciava un piccolo aiuto economico.

I genitori dei bambini, con una piccola quota mensile, avrebbero contribuito complessivamente, all'acquisto degli alimentari per il pranzo, al sostegno degli insegnanti, la cuoca, e i costi di gestione.

Ma la vita, a volte, prende strade inaspettate.

La pandemia ha cambiato il mondo, interrompendo quel delicato equilibrio su cui la scuola si basava.

Con il tempo, viaggiare verso queste zone è diventato sempre più complesso ed oneroso, e nel frattempo il costo della vita è aumentato, rendendo ancora più difficile per le famiglie di Jimba affrontare le spese quotidiane.

Anche in Europa molto è cambiato, e so che questi anni hanno portato nuove sfide per tutti.

Proprio per questo, nel riflettere su come andare avanti, mi sono trovata ad esitare.

Mi sono chiesta se fosse il momento giusto per chiedere ancora aiuto.

Poi, scorrendo le foto, ho rivisto i volti di questi bambini, ho pensato al loro futuro e alla possibilità, per loro, di continuare a crescere in un luogo sicuro, con la certezza di almeno un pasto al giorno e la gioia di imparare insieme.

Ed è così che nasce questa nuova raccolta fondi.

Non per costruire qualcosa di nuovo, ma per custodire ciò che abbiamo creato insieme.

Per non lasciare che un sogno così bello svanisca.

Perché ogni piccolo gesto, come è successo cinque anni fa, può fare la differenza.
