Officially Becoming Henry’s Mama!
Hello! My name is Megan and for the last two and a half years I’ve been on a journey to adopt my sweet boy, Henry. By birth Henry is my nephew. By heart and soul, he’s my son. Henry was born prematurely at 28 weeks. He spent the first three months of life at the University of Maryland NICU. In July 2019, I obtained limited guardianship for Henry. This allowed me to care for Henry while he was in the NICU, which consisted of lots of skin to skin snuggles, reading books, and achieving goals! On August 15, 2019, Henry was released from the hospital into my care & has been with me ever since! He’s been thriving, growing, and living life to the fullest.
Henry is full of energy, love, and curiosity. He’s taught me so much about strength, hope, and courage. Henry has overcome many obstacles in his short two and a half years. He was discharged from the NICU on oxygen. He was able to ween off oxygen from home. He’s worked extra hard to accomplish developmental milestones, gain weight, and keep on growing healthy! Despite all he’s accomplished, he still has some obstacles to overcome. Currently Henry has a diagnosis of chronic lung disease, asthma, ADHD, and sensory processing disorder. He attends weekly therapy sessions for speech and occupational therapy, in addition to lots of doctors appointments.
Henry is a normal kid at the core. He loves Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. He enjoys playing with dinosaurs, trains, cars, and little people. He loves his kitty-cat (and partner in crime), George Weasley. He likes going to the playground, zoo, and library.
I could go on about my boy for days! I’m so excited for the day that he’ll legally be mine! Until then, we are inching our way closer and closer to our adoption date, which leads me to this fundraiser. I am trying to raise funds to support the cost of an attorney through the rest of our adoption process.
At this time Henry is currently in foster care & I’m his foster parent. The parental rights of his birth parents have been terminated and he’s legally ready for adoption. I thought getting through the termination of parental rights was going to be our biggest obstacle. However, at this time a case worker is causing a huge delay in our adoption process. I have taken all measures possible to resolve the issues with this case worker and unfortunately, I have not been successful on my own. At this time, hiring an attorney is my only option in order to resolve the issues with the state and case worker and keep our adoption moving forward.
It’s been really hard for me to create this Go Fund Me. I kept having hope that I could resolve the issues with the case worker. I kept praying that she wouldn’t cause a delay in our adoption. We are so close to adoption! It’s incredibly hard asking for help and even harder sharing our story. I never thought our story would lead us here, but it’s time to let go of my pride and ask for help! Any help is greatly appreciated, whether it’s sharing our fundraiser, prayers, or donations. We are so thankful for everyone who has been on this journey with us! Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we try to wrap up this adoption process so that I can be OFFICIALLY Henry’s Mama!
I’ve had people ask for other ways to donate.
