I'm Austin Smith from "Soil to Hand," a Houston,Tx based non-profit.

This summer, I have the opportunity to help serve an impoverished area at Mt. Matutum Volcano, north of GenSan City, Philippines. Many there live with minimal resources, multiple generations in the same home, no transportation, and no consistent food source.

We will be providing 50 families there with everything they need to start a small chicken farm. From the chickens, roosters, and chick food to the pens, coops, and medicine, plus the training needed to build the pen and successfully raise the new chickens.

This offers the families an immediate food and income source with huge potential.

We operate under the principle of "The First Gift," whereby recipients give the first batch of viable eggs to a different family in need. This project empowers those in need with the gift of a self-sustainable food source.
