Oaklyn United FC is raising money for the replacement of the run-down hockey court in town with a brand new, mixed-use futsal+hockey court useable by the entire town.
This is more than just a fundraiser for a new court. This is a mission to bring soccer culture back to South Jersey.
For many years, the town of Oaklyn's public hockey rink was a place where fans of both hockey and soccer could spend hours engaging in healthy recreation. But in 2006, a member of council decided to ban soccer from the court resulting in a sharp decline in use. Ultimately, the court fell into disrepair.
Oaklyn United FC, our community's own minor league soccer team, is on a mission to restore the facility to use for all. And the timing couldn't be better. Soccer's popularity is exploding in America, and our region is gearing up to host World Cup 2026 across the river in Philadelphia.
But there isn't enough public space to meet the demand for places to play soccer. Public hard-court surfaces are perfect for the small pickup games that kids use to stay healthy and learn important skills.
So we're working with local leaders to raise funds for the eventual replacement of the court. Our goal is to build a modern, safe, and accessible court lined for both futsal and hockey with a long-lasting surface.
The estimated cost for a project of this scope is between $30,000 and $50,000. This fundraiser represents a great first step, and we plan to work with leaders to find supplemental funding including grants and private sponsorships. Every single dollar makes a difference.
Join us and help give our youth - and adults - a safe place to play with friends.
