Oak Avenue Repair Fund
To: Oak Avenue property owners
We have started a fundraising campaign for the purpose of adding gravel to Oak Avenue
The project area will be west of 22nd St NE between street number s 2214/2215 to 2274/2275.
Oak Avenue east of 22nd St NE is NOT included in this project.
We started this GoFundMe account to help collect the money needed for this project and for transparency of the funding. The goal is $2750.00. There are currently 11 properties that are occupied and actively using the road. A donation of $250.00 from each of the 11 property owners would meet this goal. We need everyone to participate to keep the cost as low as possible. I do not expect any outside money will be donated.
How did I come up with a goal of $2750.00?
I would like to add 120 yards of gravel to the road. Last summer we filled potholes and added gravel in front of several mailboxes just to get the road back into a barely reasonable condition.
That repair used 20 yards of gravel.
I would like to add 20 yards of gravel for each lot between 2214/2215 to 2254/2255 and 20 yards of gravel from 2264 to 2274 (the west end is in better condition and only has one active residence).
I contacted Schmitz Inc on Friday 7/ 10/20 and spoke with Glen and was informed that he could sell us Class 13 gravel for $20.00/yd if he can haul it with a side dump or belly dump trailer. In my opinion that is a reasonable price. Other cheaper classes of grave l or crushed concrete are
not suitable for road surfaces (class 5 is too muddy and crushed concrete causes too many flat tires).
I figured 120 yards gravel x $20.00/yd = $2400.00
$2400.00 x 5% ND sales tax= $120.00
'$2400.00 for grave l + $120.00 ND sales tax= $2520 .00
The GoFundMe account charges normal credit card transaction fees of 2.9%. That will cost about $80.00. The actual amount of the $2750.00 raised will be lowered by $80.00 leaving us with $2670.00. That should possibly leave us with an extra $150.00. I feel that money should be
used to add gravel to the South shoulder of the road at the bend in the road. That area has been a problem ever since the water line was repaired 3-4 years ago. The extra $150.00 can buy about 5-6 yards of gravel (class 13 gravel is $25.00/yd when hauled with a tandem axle truck). I would like to see all the money spent to avoid any concern of what we should do with any extra money.
I believe all property owners bear the responsibility of road repair expenses. The properties that are closest to 22nd St have the worst problems. Pothole s and ruts from the mailboxes of those properties extend out into the middle of the road . The residents of tho se properties drive the shortest distance of road but are still using services that cause wear and damage to the road. The mailman, garbage trucks, UPS truck, Fedex truck, propane trucks, school bus, etc. are just a few of the services that are constantly causing wear and damage to the road. I believe we all need to participate in this funding event.
I believe this is a valuable and affordable expense to keep our road safe and drivable.
Hopefully, this will alleviate some of our pothole problem s and muddy areas that we have experienced the last few years.
When donating please do not donate anonymously. When speaking with other residents this weekend we feel that transparency will be best if we know who has donated . From what I understand the name on the credit/debit card will identify who has donated. If you want your name to be anonymous or you have someone else donate for you, please leave a message with your street number to identify you have donated. We are using GoFundMe just to collect the money before we go forward with the project. We are not soliciting others or expect others to
donate and pay for our cause.

Thank you,
