Alex’s dream backyard!
Alex is a beautiful almost 8 year old girl living with a number of disabilities, these include Cerebal Palsy, Global Developmental Delay, Congenital CMV and hearing impairments. She is non-verbal but boy does she have a lot to say! She uses sign language along with a communication device and is very clear about what she wants a needs! She is the most social girl and has SOO many friends!
Alex’s favourite thing to do is play and be included, whether that’s playing hide and seek in her wheelchair or playing makeovers with friends and family! Alex’s main form of mobility is in her electric wheelchair, although she does also get around in a walking frame and her special adapted bike! She is constantly being asked for play dates at friends homes, however due to accessibility issues and unfamiliar environments this is not possible to facilitate and we are very limited on what she can do in our home with company.
We have a huge backyard that is unfortunately inaccessible for Alex as we do not have the money to be able to concrete the area for her to be able to navigate. Her sisters Charli (7) and Scarlett (3) love to play on the trampoline outside, play in the sandpit and run around kicking the footy and it breaks my heart Alex cannot join in!
We would love for Alex to be able to independently play in her own backyard with her family and finally be able to invite friends over to join in the fun with her!
Recently Alex was approved to Make A Wish which is incredible!! We are so very excited, of course the first thing we wished for was an accessible play area for Alex to enjoy, our thoughts are something that can grow with her - a trampoline in the ground for us to support her on, a heated spa with a hoist to enjoy summer days with her friends, and accessible cubby house for her to design as she wishes, a swing safe enough for her to be pushed in! You get the idea - the wish could be amazing for her! However because of the size of our yard and the money that would be required just to concrete pathways for Alex to access these wonderful opportunities, we are limited as to what Make A Wish can make happen . We (Alex’s mum and dad Amy & Ethan) want Alex to get the absolute most out of this experience and for her dreams to come to life in the form of fun, not a wish for concrete.
The cost is simply too much for us to be able to swing on our own, and it would be amazing to have the pathways already there for Make A Wish to simply add on to!
We are a one income family, with Alex’s dad Ethan working long and hard hours just for us to get by! We are not in a position to apply for a loan as much as it kills us.
Alex spends time in and out of hospital and appointments and in her time at home we wish for her to experience as normal a life as possible!
If you can donate a little or simply share our wish around it would mean the world to our little girl.
We have reached out to local concreting companies for quotes to be able to get a gage on exactly the cost we are looking at - every cent will go towards making this happen <3
If you happen to know of any individuals or businesses that could help with this that would also be fantastic!
