NYC Undocumented Families Fund
Donation protected
COVID-19 has all but shut down our economy and overwhelmed our healthcare system, exacerbating the precarity of working people everywhere.
It's an unimaginable hardship for us all, but immigrant communities are being hit especially hard by the economic and health consequences of this pandemic. Many newly unemployed undocumented workers have no access to a social safety net or resources to meet their basic health and safety needs, like food, housing, medicine, medical care, and transportation to drive-through testing facilities. Millions of undocumented workers across the country, despite paying taxes, will not be receiving a stimulus check or any unemployment or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits.
A government-scale solution is urgently needed, but we can't wait for the political tides to shift to recognize that the health of our communities depends upon the health of us all as individuals, regardless of immigration status. 100% of all funds raised will go directly to members of our community in New York City who can't work due to COVID-19 to fill critical gaps in available resources.
I'm a social worker in the immigrant defense setting and will distribute any funds raised to the hundreds of clients in economic need and immigration-status limbo in our practice. If funds miraculously surpass the amount our clients need to meet their basic needs, any remaining $ will be donated to the NYSYLC Emergency Fund.
There are an inspiring amount of funds emerging, but many more applicants than available resources. This is a small effort to make some funds reliable & accessible for our clients. Any contributions, no matter how small or large, are enormously appreciated.
Thank you & stay well!
