Venezuela is undergoing the worst economic crisis
Currently, the humanitarian crisis is affecting directly and intensively the most vulnerable population in Venezuela, specially children, who are not receiving the minimum daily caloric need affecting their proper development. However, the crisis that the country is facing is an opportunity a to grow and make a change rather than a challenge; because in a country where everything has been destroyed, there is so much to be build.
The Problem:
Our goal is to articulate and organize low income communities by empowering them through the implementation of a community kitchen that will serve daily dinner to children in risk of malnutrition as a response to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela; in addition to promoting community organization to solve their problems and reduce violence.
Our Theory of Change:
The project is based on a co-responsibility approach, in which the community is involved since the beginning in the decision making process of the project. They are the one who organize themselves, cook the meals,identify the children that are at risk of malnutrition with the help of a nutritionist and the guidance and support from our team. Furthermore, the children need to be enroll in school and bring their own plates, glass and forks, to develop discipline and responsibility. We only provide guidance and the ingredientes for the meals, the project relies almost entirely on the community.
Our Aim:
Community empowerment, through the creation of identity that the and ownership of the project, participation and solution-making process that integrates the community as a whole. Also, to incentivize education and its importance as a tool to build the country we aim for.
We are currently feeding over 100 children weekly and participating in El Calvario in El Hatillo Municipality, Caracas, Venezuela.
The costs of one child
One day: 0.50 cents
One week: 2.50 USD
One month: 10 USD
