Hi, my name is Libby, I’m a second year child and mental health nursing student and I’m so excited to be taking part in a 3-week volunteer nursing elective in Tanzania, in August 2025.
I will be volunteering in the local hospital/ community Monday to Friday for around 5 hours a day, helping those in need. Some of my tasks will include carrying out blood sugar tests, wound dressing and assisting in small surgical procedures. I hope to gain some hands on experience and also to acquire lots of knowledge around the commonly diagnosed illnesses in Tanzania like malaria and typhoid.
I am looking forward to helping vulnerable children and adults in receiving healthcare and learning about the local’s way of life and culture. I am ready to learn how to manage the challenges that the staff have to face with limited resources, fewer facilities and staff, as opposed to here in the UK. I hope to make a meaningful impact in the three weeks that I am there and hope to gain a lot of skills and knowledge from different health professionals.
If you would like to support me in this experience in helping those in a deprived country with receiving healthcare, then I would greatly appreciate any donations, big or small, which would help contribute to the programme fees, flights, vaccinations, insurance and other related expenses. With the money raised, I will also be taking some small donations like sweets, games, stickers, pens/ pads etc to the children receiving health care and undergoing checks. Me and my two friends who are travelling to Tanzania are also hosting a small event for family and friends in April to raise funds for our trip! Thank you!!
