House of Hope orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India

Greetings friends and family -

This is my first GoFundMe campaign, as an organization close to my heart is in need of support.

The House of Hope children's orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India needs critical funds to continue its operation through the COVID pandemic.

I was first introduced to the House of Hope while living in India, where orphanages are much more common.  Playing with children at a local orphanage in our Bangalore neighborhood had a lasting impact on our family, and from there we connected with other orphanages in southern India.

The House of Hope supports 115 children of AIDS victims, ages 4 -17 years.  The home was started 13 years ago by Drs. Raja and Radha Venkatesh after adopting their first son, whose parents died from AIDS complications.  The Indian government does not provide equal assistance to children of AIDS victims, so Drs Venkatesh created House of Hope to support these children.

House of Hope provides living quarters, three meals/day, education, and medical care.  Our family has supported the organization since we returned from India.  I've included a few recent photos below.

Up to now, House of Hope has received funding from Indian government agencies, local businesses, and individuals.  But with the pandemic, the Indian government is pulling back the majority of funding from children's homes.  House of Hope is trying to stay open, but must fund itself.

With an operating budget of $120K per year and $25K raised so far, they must raise an additional $95K to stay open.  We are trying to raise $25K this December through US donations.

I recognize that our local needs here in the U.S. are higher than they've ever been in most of our lifetimes, and we are all trying to do everything we can on the local front.  In addition, this is a way you can have an instant and direct impact on the lives of over 100 children who have already been dealt a horribly difficult hand.

Please join me in supporting the House of Hope during this 2020 Holiday season, and/or share with others who might be interested in this cause.

With gratitude,
Tia
