Help for the Kelly Family

For many years Ivor Kelly played with distinction for John Mitchels GAA  and Kilmacthomas Soccer club.

Ivor was always very committed to his clubs and answered every call when asked of him.

As sports clubs and a community, it is time now that we look after Ivor and his family.

Ivor and his wife Catherine live in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford. Up to about 2 years the Kelly’s had a relatively normal life. They have 3 wonderful kids, Cheyanne (aged 18), Savannah (aged 15 ) and Hayden (aged 9).

Ivor worked as a painter and decorator by trade.

About 2 years ago Ivor started to feel unwell struggling with muscle pain. This has now escalated, and he has chronic pain as well as muscle and nerve damage. It has now come to the stage that Ivor can no longer work.

The doctors have not been able to put any clinical diagnosis on Ivor’s condition at present. He is under the care of a neurologist in Waterford and is seeing another in Dublin but is still undergoing tests but unfortunately nobody has any answers.

There has been no treatment yet, only pain management which unfortunately isn’t working too well.

The family’s only income at present is social welfare. These are extremely difficult times for the Kelly family so we are looking to raise funds to get the medical treatment that they require to get a diagnosis for Ivor and hopefully treatment to get him back to his normal self and also to help them look after their family on a day to day basis.

Cheyanne is currently doing her leaving cert and will hopefully go to university next year. She hopes to do Arts In Maynooth and do some travelling abroad teaching English when she qualifies.

Savannah is currently doing her Junior cert and loves the local youth group.

Hayden suffers from dyspraxia and is autistic and is in a special unit in a school in Cappoquin which is a 2 and a half hour round trip every day between dropping him there and collecting him again in the afternoon. Since Ivor has been struck with his illness he is unable to do any of these drops so this all falls on Catherine. Catherine is Hayden’s full time carer so isn’t in a position to work at present.

These are really challenging times and we as a community are looking to raise funds to try help out the Kelly’s in any way we can.

We are also going to hold a fundraising 5k run on Sunday 15th March at 11am in Fews, Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford. Everyone welcome. Spot prizes on the day.
