Nourish London's Community: Muslim Soup Kitchen Fundraiser

The Muslim Soup Kitchen (MSK) is a compassionate, community-driven initiative focused on serving those in need and facing food insecurity in London, Ontario, Canada. MSK was founded in 2019 and operates as a collaborative group with mosques across London to provide warm, nourishing meals to marginalized individuals every Saturday.

The MSK does not discriminate in any way, shape, or form. We serve all patrons who seek our services. Our efforts are rooted in the principles of empathy, dignity, and solidarity. We aim to alleviate hunger and foster a sense of belonging within our community.

Due to reductions in funding, we ask for help from the wider London community to help provide meals for the remainder of 2024. We have operated every Saturday since our opening in 2019, rain or shine, in severe cold or heat. We serve 120-130 people every Saturday as long as our supplies last, and we would like to continue to offer high-quality meals to our patrons. MSK already faces shortages every week due to high demand but aims to provide non-perishables or other packaged goods so no person is left unfed. The financial constraints we face would result in us having to reduce our operations to twice a month or half the number of meals we provide. It deeply saddens us to have to reject those in need due to insufficient resources.

We aim to raise 10k to supplement the remaining weeks of 2024 as we reorganize our structure and resource planning. This will hopefully help us meet the needs of those who seek our services.

I joined MSK in 2022 when I sought community and a way to meaningfully serve my hometown. Little did I know that although I had expected to serve others, I would be the one served by the resilience, connection, stories and warmth of those around me. MSK has truly fostered something beautiful that I am honoured to contribute to and hope to continue to contribute to.
