This fundraiser is for a long-time Norwood Park Neighborhood senior who recently fell victim to a scam that is becoming all too common. This scam consists of men approaching cars in parking lots while the driver is shopping & damaging the body of the vehicle. Once the driver returns to their car, the scammers follow the driver out of the lot and act as good Samaritans by flagging down the vehicle and notifying the driver of the damage.
Through this tactic, they ask for money to repair the vehicle explaining they will do it for less than insurance would charge. This event left our neighbor's (previously undamaged) car in worse condition than when she left home to grab some simple groceries. Although she was able to leave the situation safely (upon realizing the scam), she is still left with a considerable amount of damage and a high cost to repair the car.
Lastly, with inflation on the rise and living alone on a small, fixed income, our neighbor has already been having a very difficult time paying her bills. This incident on top of that has left her uncertain as to how she can keep up with the mounting financial pressures.
