After four years of negotiating with the city of Paterson, Humble Beginnings, Inc was able to broker a deal for the purchase and acquisition of the abandoned Northside Library building at 56 North Main Street in Paterson’s 1st ward neighborhood.
Our Northside Community Action Project has developed the roadmap to advance the neighborhood’s leadership, expand our organization’s capacity to serve the more significant needs of the community
members, while redirecting our partnerships and resources to renovate the abandoned structure, with a goal to align our vision with the broader plan to revitalize the entire 1st ward neighborhood.
The total budget to complete the resource center is $1,720,377.00, including renovation and administrative costs. Our goal is to complete this project in phases. The first steps essential to begin the process of renovation are: 1. Engineering/Permitting $50,000.00, 2. Environmental/Asbestos 3. Abatement $100,000.00, and 4. Demolition/Gutting $70,000.00
Your generous contribution would help to meet a total cost of $220,000.00 to complete the preliminary stages of the project. Ultimately the building will pose as a community and family resource center that will provide services in the areas of job development, behavioral health services, continuing education, vocational rehabilitation, and youth and family development services. We will continue to update you all on phase completions and illustration of how funds were spent.
