The two adorable kids in the photo above are Cohen and Amelia, and they are both on the autism spectrum.
Will you help us build a fence in their yard so they can safely play outside?
Cohen (age 4) and Amelia (age 7) live with their parents on a busy highway in Northern Michigan. Despite efforts to keep them inside and safe, they have - on more than one occasion - gotten outside and wandered away from their home. Recently, Cohen was discovered standing in the middle of the highway. A terrifying moment! Their father is struggling with some health issues this summer and their mother works full-time outside the home to support the family. One parent, even when in good health, cannot safely keep track of both children outside. Their parents have tried everything, but what they really need is a fence for their backyard so the kids can get outside to play and be safe from the highway and other dangers.
The Northern Michigan Autism Association is working with volunteers from other area agencies to pay for and install a fence for their backyard, as well as a small playset and some improved lock and handle solutions for their exterior doors. We need to raise $5,000 to provide a safe outdoor environment and are already off to a good start.
Our goal is to have the entire $5,000 raised by Monday, August 3rd, so we can get this fence up, prevent a tragedy, and get these beautiful kids outside to play!
