North Shore Search Rescue Donation 2020

The North Shore Search and Rescue team is a volunteer service that covers the backcountry of the Vancouver North Shore Mountains; this area is approximately twice the size of Manhattan, New York. These incredible volunteers could be called at any time of day to venture into the wilderness to search for missing people. 

Not only do these search and rescue volunteers help with everyone and anyone who comes across hardship, they more specifically have spent hundreds of hours looking for my father who disappeared September 12th 2015 on the Howe Sound Crest Trail. 

After watching the Knowledge Network 5-part series about the North Shore Search and Rescue Volunteer team, I decided to create this GoFundMe Page.  The first episode begins with a lost hiker on the West Lion; in 2015, this was my father. Watching the dedicated efforts of helicopters, search volunteers on scene and search volunteers on the ground directing the call, further exposed me to what things were like when they were looking for my father. It was heart wrenching watching what these volunteers expose themselves to every call - injury, the  ruthless elements of BC backcountry, emotional and psychological trauma, exhaustion and time away from their family. 

My goal, is to raise 2,500$ to donate to these heroes, starting this year and every year after. Not only are they my heroes but they are the heroes of so many lost hikers, snowboarders and those who get injured on their days in the mountains.
