In May, North Haven Community School students, guided by craft artists, Ann McClellan and Billy Sims, will create a 21-foot willow sculpture of a swordfish at Turner Farm.

The sculpture honors Native people who lived on the island 5,000 years ago and made hunting swordfish integral to their culture. The project has the involvement and endorsement of the Penobscot Nation Office of Cultural and Historic Preservation.

We will weave rods of willow onto a steel armature to create a leaping swordfish, which will be on display through next summer.

Opening Event: May 18. The North Haven Historical Society will host speakers, Chris Sockalexis, Penobscot Nation Historic Preservation Officer, and Linda Greenlaw, best-selling author and swordboat captain. Join us for a fun and soul-stirring experience.

We have raised $10,000 of the $15,000 project fundraising goal.

Help the swordfish rise up from the ground by donating any amount to help pay for the armature, transport of donated willow to the site, plots of Dropseed Prairie Grass for landscaping, and more.
