Urgent North East Food Bank Appeal

Food banks in the North East are the busiest they have ever been. Even before Coronavirus they were already giving out over 100,000 emergency food parcels a year.
And now with people losing their jobs or seeing a sharp drop in income due to the pandemic, they are even more of a lifeline, making the difference between a family being able to feed their children or not. Sadly many food banks are seeing the need for their service increase by as much as 300%.
And yet food banks are also struggling: many people can't afford to donate as much as they normally would; some items are in such high demand that they are finding it difficult to source them or are not having them donated (UHT milk/tinned meats); and many of their usual volunteers are over 70 and are self-isolating. They have also told us that they urgently require funding for ongoing costs like rent, bills and vehicle costs.
This is why we are asking for your help.
We have come together as a group of North East volunteers from the creative, media and charity sectors to both raise funds directly for these food banks, and also to raise wider awareness of how to support more generally.
Dave Johns from "I, Daniel Blake" is helping us to raise awareness of how you can support in this short film .
Your donations will mean we can directly support food banks equally across the region with funds, allowing them to pay their essential bills and crucially to source their own items (usually at a lower cost) for the people who so desperately need them.
Volunteers involved in the campaign will not take any payment or expenses. All funds raised will be donated to food banks directly.
