No Rezone DR/SL

The owners of the Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge golf courses in Brentwood, CA, have a proposal before the City of Brentwood to request a General Plan Amendment and rezoning of about 32 acres of golf course land to high density, allowing 11 to 20 dwelling units per gross acre.  The proposed project consists of three story buildings filled with flats.  These two golf courses wind all through a large residential community consisting of two neighborhoods.  This project would put three story apartments right in the middle of this single family home community with no appropriate transition.

The General Plan for Brentwood does not anticipate the development of this type of housing at these sites, and the roads built to support the single family residential area are not able to handle the traffic increase these apartments would bring.  Our already severely underfunded fire department would have to buy a ladder truck just to support these taller structures, yet the project fails to provide adequate funding for the purchase.

This project would require making jarring changes to the General Plan in a way that is unprecedented in our city, and has met with fierce resistance among the citizens.  And yet, the project applicant has shown through their massive expenditures that they are deaf to the concerns of their neighbors and intend to pursue every advantage they have to get this project approved.

The No Rezone DR/SL Committee is dedicated to stopping this project.  Many of our friends and neighbors have come out to help us with signs, canvassing, addressing the City Council, and so much more.  But now, the time has come for us to ask for your financial help.  We are in the midst of the draft review of the Environmental Impact Report as required by CEQA, and we will need professional assistance that goes beyond the ability of just a few of us to pay out of our own pockets.  We need your help with this right away.  And we hope we can create a permanent fix that would  protect not just our neighborhoods, but all of Brentwood, from this type of predatory and invasive development that does not fit in with our shared vision for the future of this beautiful city.

We are asking not just the residents of our own community, but all who live, work, play, and raise their families in our beautiful City of Brentwood to chip in what you can to help us stop this project that threatens to set a dangerous precedent for inappropriate development, and to help us find a path forward to protect the future for ourselves, our families, and the city that we love.
