One heartbreaking year has elapsed since the devastating earthquake struck southern Türkiye on February 6, 2023, causing massive destruction in 11 provinces inhabited by nearly 15 million people. Tragically, over 50,000 lives were lost, and more than 100,000 individuals sustained injuries in the aftermath of this catastrophic event. Official reports reveal the collapse of approximately 37,000 buildings, with an additional 311,000 structures rendered unusable, encompassing 872,000 dwelling units.
Unfortunately, here we are a year after the disaster, with hundreds of thousands enduring the bitter cold in tents and containers, millions of job opportunities were lost with no replacements in sight, mental and psychological wounds run deep, in addition to the financial struggles in Türkiye weaving a tapestry of hardships.
Since the early days following the earthquake, Olive Branch has actively engaged in on-the-ground efforts. Immediate relief activities included the distribution of ready to eat meals, hygiene kits, and tents. In the subsequent months Olive Branch expanded the support to include psychosocial first aid and psychosocial support assistance for children and adults in addition to the distribution of voucher supermarket cards to support families.
Recognizing these ongoing needs, as we move forward, Olive Branch remains dedicated to providing continuous assistance to the affected communities and addressing urgent needs, they are committed to sustaining efforts to normalize lives post-earthquake. With your kind donations, Olive Branch will provide services including mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to children and adults, and reintegrating children into schools, in addition to providing winterization and shelter support for those who lost their houses.
Your kind support will be a chance for those struggling to stand up again.
