The Shasta Beloved Community believes that an important way to create an inclusive community is to support those who have experienced injustice. We invite you to join us in a current effort by supporting a family here in Shasta County whose safety and well-being have been threatened. This family, including their three children, were the victims of a racially motivated incident that is currently being charged and prosecuted as a hate crime. The perpetrator allegedly drove up to the family’s residence, yelled racial slurs and fired multiple gunshots at the family before they escaped. As a result, he is currently facing 16 felony counts.
The family has been given temporary shelter but now needs to relocate. Given safety concerns, they do not want to move back to their former residence. As we all know, relocating and finding housing for a family is time consuming and expensive. We, The Beloved Community, have launched this Go Fund Me as an appeal to all in our county who oppose hate and want to create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community to join us in raising funds to support their transition to a new place to live.
Thank you for being, and showing, what it means to be a beloved and loving community.
Remember, Monday October 19th-Saturday October 25th is United Against Hate Week.
“Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
