In 1995, Nonnina’s Table Charity was founded by my great aunt, Joan Yim, in honour of her best friend Tina “Nonnina,” who passed away from cancer. For almost 30 years, Nonnina’s Table has been a beacon of hope for hundreds of vulnerable families in our city—serving hot meals, distributing food hampers, and ensuring people in need had not just nourishment, but dignity and care. I have been so honoured to have been involved, serving my community while deepening my connection to my family.

Earlier this year, we lost Joan, our beloved Founder following her courageous battle with stage 4 cancer. Joan was an extraordinary leader and inspiration who dedicated her life to serving others. From personally cooking thousands of meals to welcoming newcomer and refugee families to her own front door with groceries, she embodied kindness, compassion, and resilience. Though we grieve her loss deeply, her spirit lives on in every meal we serve and every family we support.

This year, we are committed to continuing Joan’s mission. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to provide food hampers, personal care products, and toys for 1,200 families in need this holiday season.

Joan’s trailblazed a resourceful and thoughtful approach at Nonnina's Table, with every $40 raised providing a family with $200 worth of food and essential items—a powerful impact that multiplies your generosity.

We are reaching out to ask you to help us carry forward Joan’s legacy of love and service. Your donation—whether large or small—will make a real difference in bringing hope, joy, and nourishment to families who might otherwise go without.

In addition to financial contributions, donations of non-perishable food items, new personal care products, or new children’s toys are also gratefully accepted.

Joan believed that no one should go to bed hungry. Together, we can honour her life’s work and make this holiday season one of compassion and community for families in need as we carry her in our hearts.
