My name is Clay, and I am an intern at Tibi from Louisiana, so I was touched whenever Amy told me about Troy H. and his story. Being born and raised in Louisiana, I have grown up visiting New Orleans frequently and meeting many unique people along the way, most of whom I still carry with me today. While the city of New Orleans is magical, the people who inhabit it are what make it what it is. Troy H. is a New Orleans native with dreams of attending a New York fashion show. When asked what it would mean to him to come to New York fashion week, he said, "This moment will be an honorable memory of life. It's a blessing to even have this offer, and I will be forever grateful for this moment and opportunity."
Like most New Orleanians, Troy has an interesting story. When he was a boy, he developed a deep love for twirling and was determined to perfect his craft - even if it meant using drumsticks instead of batons to avoid any judgement from peers. A sense of admiration comes from meeting a person who hones their craft and takes negativity from others and turns it into something beautiful. To this day, he doesn’t go anywhere without his batons. Troy was Amy’s Uber driver when she was visiting New Orleans last Spring. Amy asked Troy what he did outside of Uber, and Troy shared his story. Amy then asked him if he had his batons with him - he popped them out of the trunk and gave her a private show! You can click here to watch Troy do what he loves. Turns out, Troy is an experienced twirler. He is the head coach at his mother's Majorette school, Shinetyme, based in The Garden District of New Orleans. He has completed training camps at multiple schools throughout the city and he even has his own elite adult team- The Dynamics. Majorette is in Troy's blood, and he has spent years perfecting his craft and giving the New Orleans youth a safe space to do what they love and to be a part of something special.
Not only does Troy have a team, Troy has a craft that he is passionate and knowledgable about. I've been an intern here at Tibi over the summer and I see a lot of similarities between how Troy and Tibi approach life. So, it feels right to come together as a community and return the gesture to invite Troy out from the 9th-11th of September to attend the Tibi show and NYFW. I am eager to get this Go Fund Me rolling so that Troy can have the opportunity to fulfill his dream of attending a fashion show AND visit NYC for the very first time!!! The proceeds from this campaign will go towards Troy’s flight, hotel, transportation and food expenses while he is in New York, and any left over will go towards Shinetyme and the costs that come with coaching a Majorette team. Anything counts, and your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
