Migrant Solidarity Fund

No One Is Illegal - Halifax/K'jipuktuk is launching a community Migrant Solidarity Fund.

This fund has been created to address urgent support requests that are surfacing from migrants in our community. This solidarity fund is anchored in the principle of mutual aid.

Mutual aid calls on us all to care for each other in ways that improve material conditions, making us safer and stronger together, while less reliant on systemic structures built to oppress, dispossess and pit communities against each other. Mutual aid attempts to build up new worlds outside of today’s racist and colonial structures. This fund will help us foster relationships of solidarity with migrants in our communities, while we concurrently organize to dismantle systems of oppression.

Your support is crucial.

NOII-Hfx believes in collective, people-powered organizing to challenge the structures that allow poverty, incarceration and racism to flourish. Instead of a charity-approach that reinforce hierarchies and oppressions, this fund is rooted in solidarity – recognizing that we are responsible for one another – by supporting migrants’ self-determination, survival and their long-term resilience. This is why NOII-Hfx is launching this mutual aid fund.

Many migrants in Nova Scotia, and across stolen lands, face structural barriers to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, housing and community-care. Due to a racist two-tier immigration system, migrants are often prevented from engaging in safe and dignified work, and are sometimes tied to a single employer who exercise incredible power over them. Moveover, migrants are often denied access to essential services like healthcare, education, and emergency pandemic supports even though it is through the labour of migrants that we are able to eat fresh food, and care for our families and children.

Who will it help?

NOII-Hfx mutual aid funds will be used to support migrants in our communities, primarily based in so-called Nova Scotia.

How will it be administered?

The fund will be administered by NOII-Hfx, a migrant justice organization based in Halifax.

How can YOU help?

Please donate to the Migrant Solidarity Fund. Your support will go directly to migrants in our community allowing for increased access to dignity and safety. Please share widely.
