Neighborhoods across Lawndale, Redondo Beach, and Torrance came together around one major fight: making sure our communities had a real voice in the future of the Metro C Line extension.
And in January, we won a huge battle.
After months of organizing, showing up, speaking out, and working together, the Metro Board voted to move forward with the Hawthorne Boulevard alternative instead of routing the train down the ROW.
That was an incredible victory for our communities, but the work is not over.
We still need to make sure Metro stays OFF the ROW as the project moves forward, and we need to protect this important stretch of green space for the neighborhoods, families, and wildlife that depend on it.
And that fight showed us something else too: when South Bay neighbors organize together, we can make a real difference.
That is why the South Bay Environmental Justice Alliance is just getting started.
SBEJA is a grassroots group dedicated to protecting our environment, preserving green space, holding decision-makers accountable, and making sure local residents have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect where we live.
Since the January vote, we have continued working behind the scenes, staying involved with the Metro project, building relationships, organizing our community, and looking ahead to the environmental issues that will affect the South Bay next.
Your donations help us continue that work.
Contributions support community outreach, printing and educational materials, events, organizing costs, nonprofit expenses, and the tools we need to keep residents informed and engaged.
This organization has been powered by neighbors from the beginning. People have donated their time, skills, materials, and energy because they believe our communities deserve to be heard and our green spaces deserve to be protected.
We won the big fight that brought us together.
Now we are building something that can keep fighting for the South Bay for years to come.
Thank you for supporting the South Bay Environmental Justice Alliance.
