We are Triangle Abortion Access Coalition and we are hoping to raise funds for some lovely members of our community currently navigating life after being criminalized for having an abortion.
Recently, two young people were arrested in North Carolina after one allegedly took abortion pills, went into unexpected early labor, delivered at home, and called 911 for help. The young woman, 18, and her partner, 19, are currently facing criminal charges stemming from the alleged use of abortion pills. It's not a crime to take abortion medication or self-manage an abortion in North Carolina.
The young woman was arrested and jailed just days after delivering. No one should be arrested, caged, and deprived of basic hygiene days after giving birth! What they need during this critical time is care and support in safe and clean spaces.
The young people are currently out of jail and have legal support. But facing criminalization has long-lasting and costly impacts! Your donation will support these teens as they navigate the widespread effects this criminalization will have on their lives.
Abortion bans are increasingly exposing abortion seekers to the violence of our policing system—one that looks at someone going through a deeply terrifying experience and only sees a villain. Providing community care and support is an essential tool to keep our community safe in the face of this violence.
Right now, this family needs community care more than ever. Please donate if you can. Every contribution helps this family stay safe and supported.
