NO on Kettner and Vine

We are all in its grip: homelessness. All that is left to do is figure out how best to lessen it. There will NEVER be enough money to save them all. The decisions we make with our limited resources become even more pressing. This burden belongs to millions of us that call San Diego home. It belongs to us equally. What you won’t hear a single politician address is how we equally spread the burden to everyone capable of carrying a piece of it. To even the casual observer, dropping almost 10% of the entire homeless population into one location at the very doorstep of one of San Diego’s historic neighborhoods is absurdly unfair. As if the inequality argument itself isn’t strong enough to stop this project what about the ‘unintended consequences’ that politicians are too blithe to mention? Which San Diego politician is going to step up and offer me and my fellow Mission Hills neighbors an ironclad, court enforceable guarantee that my property values aren’t going to be negatively affected; that crime won’t increase in my neighborhood; that vagrancy, camping on sidewalks, lewd public behavior, trash, and the diminution of the my hard earned right to quiet enjoyment of my most valued asset won’t be permanently affected? Who in the most prominent political positions will give me assurances that this site won’t become a mecca for the increasing numbers of homeless who will lurk in the vicinity of the shelter in hopes of getting a meal or a fresh set of clothes? And what is to be said about the political ambitions of one man obligating the entire taxpaying population of San Diego to what could be a forty year commitment when he won’t even share the details of the project with the citizenry. This project is wrong for many reasons. For my fellow Middletown neighbors and me, it seems like we are carrying the weight of the piano while everyone else is casually carrying the bench. Say ‘NO’ to the Kettner & Vine project; say it with your voice, say it with your activism, and say it with your donation here right now. Please donate NOW. We must obtain legal assistance to fight this fight before it's too late.
