No Evictions Campaign - Emergency Fundraiser

Yesterday (12th June) Serco announced that they will restart their program of lock changes targeted at 300 people living in asylum accommodation.

We condemn this callous and uncaring move, forcing hundreds of displaced people into an untenable position where they will be at risk of homelessness, and associated harm and distress.

Serco has been met with a wave of protest in Glasgow since it first announced this proposal in August 2018, culminating in the company losing the Asylum Housing contract in Scotland. It is now attempting to use its final months as a provider of housing to punish those who have been caught in the gaps of a broken asylum system.

‘No Evictions’ is a campaign comprising people from groups such as MORE (Migrants Organising for Rights and Empowerment), Unity Sisters, The Unity Centre and Living Rent, along with a number of individuals and current Serco tenants. We formed specifically to fight these evictions, to support those people affected, and to campaign for those in power to act on their duties of care.

We are raising money to continue to build our campaign in resistance to Serco, and any future Asylum Housing Contractor such as Mears.

Money raised will go mostly towards travel reimbursements to meetings and actions for anyone who needs them, printing flyers and posters, and covering the cost of tea, coffee and biscuits for meetings.
