We must stop the EcoParc that Teulada Moraira council are planning to put in our high-density residential/tourist area which would have a significant impact on the quality of life and the value of the surrounding properties. Without warning, we have discovered that a plan is in place to put a 16 container industrial Ecoparc, (a rubbish tip) only steps away from our homes, and it includes containers for hazardous waste. The work is intended to start in February of 2026 and therefore it is vital that we move quickly to do all we can to stop this. The project is using money from the EU and we believe that requirements have not been legally met to gain these funds. Disposal of batteries have been known to spark fires at tip sites, and the disposal of paint is highly regulated under EU law. International technical standards and environmental protection regulations require that hazardous waste management facilities must maintain a buffer zone of at least 200m from residential areas. The location that they have chosen is just mere steps away. We do appreciate the need for a rubbish and recycling plant but believe that this should not be in a residential area. This choice of location does not resonate with the needs of those local to it. Here, we and the many tourists, generate domestic waste and packaging (for which we have existing bins), not large scale or hazardous waste. The road infrastructure is not up to it, our narrow streets are unsuited for heavy waste trucks, and it poses a serious safety risk for residents and pedestrians from excessive traffic, noise, toxins, odours, pests and rodents. There is also the very real fire risk. The streets are not suitable for firetrucks and appliances and this could cause a danger to life. What will happen if insurance companies refuse to cover our homes due to this risk? It will also result in devaluation of our homes. The town hall has proceeded without any consultation with the residents directly affected, demonstrating a complete disregard for citizen participation and transparency, and we are to believe that this also goes against EU policy. There would be substantial excavation which would entail serious noise and dust which of course is a health risk, particularly for those suffering from asthma and other breathing difficulties. It will also be disastrous for the plants and wildlife living in the adjacent green space. We propose that an alternative site be used, away from residential zones, or that the existing ecoparc in Teulada be extended and improved as it is neglected and in a very sorry state. They could spend money on longer opening hours there so that waste is not dumped outside of the entrance to it or in other locations. We also have to ask whether the public liability insurance of the council will protect them from the longlist of potential claims eg environmental, traffic, water contamination, health etc.

We ask that we, as those affected, stand together to fight this proposed Ecoparc. Our first step would be to engage a lawyer specialising in environmental and EU law. This will cost money and so we ask that you donate to this fund so that we may proceed.

Debemos detener el Ecoparque que el Ayuntamiento de Teulada Moraira planea construir en nuestra zona residencial y turística de alta densidad, lo cual tendría un impacto significativo en la calidad de vida y el valor de las propiedades circundantes. Sin previo aviso, hemos descubierto que se está planeando instalar 16 contenedores industriales (un vertedero) a pocos pasos de nuestras casas, que incluye contenedores para residuos peligrosos. Las obras están previstas para comenzar en febrero de 2026, por lo que es vital que actuemos con rapidez para hacer todo lo posible por detenerlo.

El proyecto utiliza fondos de la UE y creemos que no se han cumplido los requisitos legales para obtenerlos. Se sabe que la eliminación de pilas provoca incendios en vertederos, y la eliminación de pintura está estrictamente regulada por la legislación de la UE. Las normas técnicas internacionales y la normativa de protección ambiental exigen que las instalaciones de gestión de residuos peligrosos mantengan una zona de seguridad de al menos 200 m de las zonas residenciales. La ubicación elegida está a pocos pasos. Comprendemos la necesidad de una planta de reciclaje de residuos, pero creemos que no debería estar en una zona residencial.

Esta elección de ubicación no se ajusta a las necesidades de los residentes locales. Aquí, nosotros y los numerosos turistas generamos residuos domésticos y envases (para los cuales disponemos de contenedores), no residuos a gran escala ni peligrosos. La infraestructura vial no está a la altura, nuestras calles estrechas no son aptas para camiones de basura pesados, lo que supone un grave riesgo para la seguridad de residentes y peatones debido al tráfico excesivo, el ruido, las toxinas, los olores, las plagas y los roedores. Además, existe un riesgo real de incendio. Las calles no son aptas para camiones de bomberos lo que podría suponer un peligro para la vida. ¿Qué ocurrirá si las compañías de seguros se niegan a cubrir nuestras viviendas debido a este riesgo? También resultará en la devaluación de nuestras viviendas. El ayuntamiento ha procedido sin consultar a los residentes directamente afectados, demostrando un total desprecio por la participación ciudadana y la transparencia, y creemos que esto también contraviene la política de la UE. Se realizarían excavaciones importantes que generarían ruido y polvo graves, lo que, por supuesto, supone un riesgo para la salud, especialmente para quienes padecen asma y otras dificultades respiratorias. También será desastroso para las plantas y la vida silvestre que viven en el espacio verde adyacente.

Proponemos que se utilice un emplazamiento alternativo, alejado de las zonas residenciales, o que se amplíe y mejore el ecoparque existente en Teulada, ya que se encuentra abandonado y en un estado lamentable. Podrían invertir en ampliar el horario de apertura para evitar que se viertan residuos fuera de la entrada ni en otros lugares. También debemos preguntar si el seguro de responsabilidad civil del ayuntamiento los protegerá de la larga lista de posibles reclamaciones, por ejemplo, ambientales, de tráfico, contaminación del agua, sanitarias, etc.

Pedimos que, como afectados, nos unamos para luchar contra este ecoparque propuesto. Nuestro primer paso sería contratar a un abogado especializado en derecho ambiental y de la UE. Esto tendrá un coste económico, por lo que les pedimos que donen a este fondo para que podamos proceder.
