When our local citizens, in Rutledge and surrounding communities, asked simple, lawful questions about how a massive industrial project like Rivian was being pushed through in our area — without local zoning, environmental clarity, or community input — we were met with resistance, and a smear campaign in the press by a high powered PR firm.
Then after a brave group of residents stood up and filed a legal challenge, the State of Georgia jumped in with high powered attorneys to fight against it’s own citizens. As the court cases continued through the LEGAL channels, the State and JDA resorted to punishment and bullying, by demanding they pay its attorney’s fees. That’s not justice — that’s intimidation. This is a warning shot to every Georgia resident: Speak up, and you’ll pay for it.
This isn’t just about our communities— it’s about your land, your water, and your right to question your government. If they can come after us, they can come after anyone.
These plaintiffs, ordinary, everyday citizens, stood up for our property rights, clean water, and transparency.
Now we need to help them to stand up to this bullying in court.
