The Nine Elms pub in West Swindon, with the support of West Swindon Parish Council, is hoping to pull the local community together to raise money to purchase an AED defibrillator cabinet to be located on the outside of the pub. The intention is to raise money to give our local community a sense of safety and provide the right equipment in case of an emergency. We are focused on making sure that we can provide this in the hope it will never have to be used but it is available if required. We pride ourselves on helping everyone and this is how we can all stand together and unite to keep everyone safe.
Currently, the nearest defibrillators to the Nine Elms are located at Tesco’s in Shaw Village Centre and Brookfield and Peatmoor schools. Obviously, this is not ideal as there is no provision for Nine Elms, Washpool and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Having a defibrillator nearby is important because they significantly increase the patient’s chance of survival during a cardiac arrest. When a person suffers from sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 7-10% for each minute that passes without defibrillation.
Defibrillators cost approximately £1600 each, plus between £200-£500 for installation. For some communities this is a cost they simply can’t afford. However, the Nine Elms hopes that with the support of residents donating to our Go Fund Me page and supporting up and coming fund raising events at the pub, we should be able to raise the money to have a machine installed outside the pub for the benefit of everyone in the community.
Please donate here. Alternately, pop in the pub, have a drink and donate.
Don’t forget to check our Facebook page for details of forthcoming events and fund-raising news.
Thank you for your support.
