Support the Future Legal Minds of R. Frank Nims Middle School with The Tallahassee Barristers!
Nims Academy of Legal Studies at R. Frank Nims Middle School is the first in the district to provide middle school students with legal experiences while guiding them toward success in their academic studies. Their students are prepared for a student Bar Exam, and upon passing, they become active lawyers on our campus. These student lawyers can assist peers who may have found themselves in trouble, helping to remove referrals from their records if their case is won. Their lawyers are hired and paid with Trojan bucks by their clients, using legal knowledge gained during their years of training. The role of judge is typically held by our head teacher of legal studies, but an 8th-grade student can run for the position of student judge and be elected by their peers. Each student is expected to maintain A or B grades in all classes throughout middle school. Completion of this program enables them to graduate with high school credits before attending high school. Our goal is for these scholars to finish the program with the keys to success, regardless of their chosen profession.
They are currently organizing our 2nd bi-annual field trip for our law students to visit Washington, D.C. Our students will be visiting the Washington Monument, MLK Memorial, Smithsonian Institution, Holocaust Museum, Lincoln Memorial, and many other historic locations while in D.C. We are seeking sponsorships to make this enriching experience possible and offset the cost for their students.
