“Niece’s selfless act”
Donation protected
Hello my name is Merle. In January 2020 I was diagnosed with Kidney failure or End Stage Renal Disease. I was placed on Dialysis for 3 days a week. Each Dialysis session is about 4 hours. I was placed on the transplant list for UC Davis and UCSF. We looked at the options and waiting for a Kidney to become available. During this time I kept working but was unable to travel. My job did require me to travel a little. Sometime last year my wife applied to be a donor but we are not the same blood type as I am O + and she was b+. She did apply to be a swap donor meaning if there was someone that had a match for her and we were a match for their family they would swap transplants. Some of her medical condition excluded her from being a donor. My niece happened to be O+ and applied to be a donor. My niece Mikayla lives in Wyoming and had to do some blood test. She was proven to be a match. We then flew her to California for further testing. They really put you through the gamut of test as they need to make sure you are healthy enough to give up a Kidney.. Testing turned out great. She clearly was a match and healthy enough to give me a Kidney. By the way my niece is recovering from a work injury and has not worked for 6 months. On August 29th, 2023 they removed a Kidney from her and placed it in me. What a life saver. I have not felt this good for years. She is experiencing some dizziness and nausea from the Anesthesia but that should soon pass. Soon she will be going back to Wyoming to take care of her 4 children and go back to work. She works as a CNA and in January is hoping to go back to college to become a nurse. Any money raised will help her to achieve her goals. I wanted to try and give her something as she has given me a better quality of life. Please feel free to donate what you can.
