This is Hans Casteels. I don’t want revenue from Substack. I am deeply allergic to the idea that information, especially the kind that helps people feel a little less alone or a little more sane, should sit behind a paywall like a museum exhibit you can only view if you’ve brought exact change.

What I do want is to hijack this little corner of the internet for something concrete and useful. Ontario hospitals are chronically underfunded. That is not news. What is news to the newborn who needs one is a bassinette. These things are not decorative. They save lives. My daughter is a NICU RN who saves baby lives every day.

So instead of subscriptions or premium tiers or artisanal monetization strategies, I am hoping this Substack can quietly fund one or two basinettes for a local hospital through voluntary donations.

No pressure. No guilt. Just the idea that if you’ve read something here and thought, “That mattered,” a newborn might benefit from that moment in a very literal way.
