Bronx Burners NYC Marathon Fundraiser - Nick Sigona

I'm running the 2024 New York City Marathon (my first ever!) as a part of the Bronx Burners Run Club Charity Team! The Bronx Burners Run Club is a registered New York nonprofit that supports local Bronx youth athletes, aiming to strengthen the Bronx running community.

Every dollar we raise in our Scholarship Fund goes directly to our student athletes. To date, we have raised over $25,000 to provide scholarships for college education, summer running camps, and other sports-focused activities for our athletes. Please help us to reach our goal of $100,000 by the end of 2025 and support my dream of running the NYC Marathon.

My Bronx Burners Story: I moved to NYC in June 2023; one of the reasons for moving here was to get more involved in the running community and give back in some way. I reached out to Shaq Roberts (co-founder of the Bronx Burners) thru TikTok (yes, TikTok lol); we went for a 6-mile loop around Central Park a month later. I asked him about run clubs and he told me him and a friend (Rob Dalto, co-founder) were planning on starting one up in the Bronx. They met a few HS Athletes at the track and wanted to build community around the bond they quickly formed thru running.

I met up with them in August 2023 and it changed the way I view Wednesdays. For the last year, almost every Wednesday night has been spent up at the track outside Yankee Stadium running laps and training for races with the Bronx Burners. I've seen practices grow from 3 people (see below: Day 1 - Shaq, Yusuf (HS Athlete), and I) to 25+ people a week consistently showing up to spend time with each other and bounce positive energy off one another running around a 400m track.

The growth of this community is something I'm proud to be part of and I look forward to seeing the greater impact we can have on the Bronx running community. The possibilities are endless.

My Running Story: If you know me, you know I was never a runner; I have flat feet and weak ankles. You also know I like to do things that are hard and challenge me. I'll be running the 2024 New York City Marathon this year in representation of the run club that has helped me find some of my closest friends and a strong community in a big city that can be lonely at times. I'm honored to wear the Bronx Burners logo across my chest and will be putting in the work to throw down a strong effort on November 3rd, 2024.
