UPDATE - AUGUST 7th
RIP - Nic’s journey came to an end this morning.Nic took his last breath at 5:30AM peacefully surrounded by Kandi, his boys, Simon and Ben, and his mother, Alice.
While his family, friends and colleagues have all been profoundly impacted by this tragedy, I know we will all find a way to honor Nic by staying positive and sharing our stories of his humor, selfless character, endless determination and constant smile.
UPDATE - JULY 30th
Nic Ziccardi's Journey is coming to an end much faster than the doctors anticipated. Nic has not eaten or drank for more than 24 hours. Hospice has made regular visits to the house over the past three days to help Kandi, Ben and Simon through this unthinkable nightmare as best as possible.
I'm going to spare you the details of Nic's current condition other than to say we are likely looking at days rather than weeks.
Denise and I are mourning the loss of our friend as so many of you are. Kandi and the boys want all of you to know how appreciative they are for the outpouring of love and support from their incredible community.

Our friend Nic Ziccardi and his family are in crisis. Nic has been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) which is a rare, degenerative, fatal brain disorder. It affects about one person in every one million per year worldwide; in the United States there are about 350 cases per year and runs a rapid course.
I've had the privilege of knowing Nic and his family for 20 years. Nic has been part of our family here at work at Network & Security Technologies since 2008 and I know others employers in Columbus including AEP who also consider him to be part of their family.
To say our hearts are breaking doesn't even touch what all of us are going through each and every moment. Nic's time is very limited, and his family is trying to make the best of each moment.
Nic and Kandi have been together for 31 years, but as Kandi told us "31 more years would not be enough with him. Nic is the kind of person who makes every one he knows better." His family is doing what they can to continue breathing every day while they adjust to the shock of this news.
Network & Security Technologies will be doing what we can to help Kandi, Simon and Ben use this time with Nic as effectively as they can..
We are setting up this fund to help the family adjust to this new and tragic reality.
