Little Free Library for Children's Park
The Mt. Vernon Children's Park is raising money in order to add a Little Free Library box to our neighborhood at our park at 801 N. Calvert Street in Baltimore, Maryland. The Little Free Library's (https://littlefreelibrary.org/) mission is to provide free books to communities by having a central location where free books can be dropped off and exchanged by members of the community and visitors to the park from all over Baltimore and beyond.

Children who grow up in homes without books are, on average, academically three years behind children in homes where books are plentiful. Reading and access to books, especially in the home, is one of the most successful way to help children improve their reading skills. But with two out of three children living in poverty having no books of their own, we want to try to help change that on a local level.
Our goal in this fundraiser is to raise enough money to
1). Obtain a Little Free Library box and stand that we can install inside the park
2). Register for a charter and charter number with Little Free Library
3). Add some new books for the box to share immediately with the community
For our Little Free Library, we would like to focus on books geared toward children--picture books, early readers, paperbacks and hardbacks for young children to teens.
Also, while we are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, we would also like to double the use of our Little Free Library by making it a Little Free Pantry/Blessings Box with nonperishable foods, depending on available space.
We think this would be a great and lasting addition not only to our small park but to our neighborhood and our city! Donors to this fundraiser will have their names added to a plaque attached to the Little Free Library unless they donate anonymously or let us know that they would prefer to be left off of it.
We hope you will consider donating to our fundraiser!
