Dave has always been the one to step up and give. He served his country during Vietnam with the United States Air Force, it was here he would learn many years later his exposure to Agent Orange would be the cause many medical issues.
After his military service he went on to become a police officer, then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He joined the ranks of NHL Off Ice Officials in 2001, never one to sit around and do nothing he became an active member of the local chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America. He has currently been serving as President of Vietnam Veterans of America chapter.
He retired from the Postal Service in December of 2011, and in January of 2012 learned he had Prostrate Cancer and a heart arrhythmia all side effects of his exposure to Agent Orange so many years ago. Dave being Dave decided this would not get him down. He successfully battled the cancer and continues to work closely with his doctor to keep his heart condition in check.
Once back on his feet he got his CDL and began driving school bus!
On Thursday January 17, 2019 Dave was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was known to be a rapidly growing tumor invading two separate lobes of his brain. On Thursday January 24, 2019 the neurosurgeons at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville preformed surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible with out endangering his speech, eyesight, or even possibly his life. He has a long road ahead with Chemo and Radiation Treatments being mandatory in an effort to keep what could not be removed from continuing to grow and hopefully to eradicate it completely.
He will be out of work for a while, but we don't know yet how long. We will have to see how he reacts to the Chemo and Radiation (being a survivor myself I know that it can be hard on the body). We are hoping to get the plan in place this week at least by the time he goes to the doctor to have his 21 staples removed!
