HELP A MOTHER GET BACK ON HER FEET
Donation protected
First of all, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated over the past few months. I truly appreciate every bit of support.
Can you please share my story?
Hi everyone, my name is Veronica. I’m a mum of eight beautiful children — two of them have cerebral palsy and use wheelchairs. I’ve worked hard as a rideshare driver to support my family, but everything changed in February when my car broke down.
I bought a 2021 Hyundai Staria from a dealership in Liverpool in 2023 and always kept up with the servicing. My last service was in early February 2025 — the very next day, the van broke down on the way to the airport. It was towed to McGrath Liverpool, and I haven’t been able to work for over 7 months.
Even though the car was under warranty, both the dealership and warranty provider have refused to fix it. I contacted NSW Fair Trading, but nothing was resolved. Legal Aid even told me the van should never have been sold to me in that condition.
The original repair quote was $26,000 — far beyond what I can afford.
I’ve been without transport for over 26 weeks, unable to take my children to medical appointments or earn an income. As a single mum, it's been heartbreaking.
The good news: a trusted mechanic friend found someone who could do the repairs for $7,000. I couldn’t afford it, but a very close friend generously gave me $3,200 to help, and I managed to pay the $7,000. I now need to pay her back.
Then more problems came up:
The van needs a new crank, which isn’t repairable — $1,100 + GST
It also needs 4 diesel fuel injectors and a battery — $2,500 + GST
That brings the total I still owe the mechanic to $4,825.
This van means everything to me. It’s how I provide for my family and care for my children with additional needs. I’m asking for your help to get back on the road, back to work, and back to supporting my family the way they deserve.
Any donation — big or small — would mean the world. Even just sharing this post helps more than you know.
From the bottom of my heart,
Thank you so much.
With love and gratitude,
Veronica
