Save the Berwick Springs Lake name

Donation protected
On the 9th of Nov 2024, seven Victorian state MPs turned up unannounced, placed a sign and stated they have renamed the Berwick Springs Lake. In doing so, deleting 170 years of local Australian history.

The name "The Springs" dates back to 1855. There was no community consultation, nothing. Renamed Guru Nanak Lake, after an Indian Sikh born in 1469 (550 years ago).

Named under a program called "Remember A Local, Name a Place", born in 1469, Guru Nanak is not a local. As the Victorian state precedent, Jacinta Allan has stated thousands, in fact in excess of up to 6,000 places could be renamed.

We ask as the state precedent, that all Victorians get behind us at Berwick Springs. Please support us and help take the fight to the Victorian State Government.

We are raising funds for the Berwick Springs Community Association to pay for the future associated costs, including advertising, community awareness programs, government fees and charges and potential legal costs, as we seek legal advice.

We call on the Victorian State Government to understand that all local communities deserve to be respectfully consulted on local issues.
