Newton Restaurant Platform Project

Newton restaurants are the heart of our community. Our restaurants were hit hard by the pandemic. Your Ward 6 City Councilors, Brenda Noel, Alicia Bowman, and Vicki Danberg worked with the Mayor and the Planning Department to significantly expand this year's outdoor seating, ensuring the safety of restaurants and diners and enhancing the dining experience. Accessibility is critical to a strong vibrant community.

The Restaurant Platform Project ensures accessibility to outdoor seating by making the seating level with the sidewalk. We completed our first platform Sunday morning with a group of volunteers lead by Ben Tucker, President, Chapman Construction. We were fortunate to secure the wood at a discounted price from National Lumber in Newton, but despite this savings, material costs are between $650 and $1200 per platform.
