Newton Impact Community Group (528 Committee)

Hi,

We are the Newton Impact Committee, and we are raising money to push Newton's city government to better represent the needs of the community in the face of big developers.

528 Boylston St. (Route 9) is our first and foremost concern, but many other developments are being proposed across Newton that are out of the scale and character of the neighborhoods in which they will be built, as well as bring safety, traffic, environmental and other issues with them. These luxury high rises will do little to address the affordable housing crisis affecting Newton, and much of Massachusetts. We have much more material about the state of development in Newton available on our website, https://www.newtonimpact.com.

What will the funds be used for?

  • Purchase and distribution of yard signs so that more of our community can be aware of these developments
  • Basic fees to cover initial meetings with our legal team, who will help advise us on the best path forward
  • Mailing, printing, web service and other administrative costs
  • Rental of community meeting rooms in local schools and municipal buildings

Our small community group has done a lot with no budget so far, but we're getting to the point where it's getting hard to move forward!
