New Haven Housing Fund - Support Unhoused People in New Haven
New Haven Housing Fund is organizing to connect people on the street to supplies & support in the New Haven community. Due to systemic houselessness, many people will be on the streets this year. Furthermore, due to COVID-19, typical access to warming centers and shelters has been severely impaired. This winter, many people will be sleeping outside, with no access to even the bare minimum of proper winter gear. Thus, we are having a fundraiser to support our neighbors. The money raised by NHHF will be used to buy winter supplies that we don’t receive in our Survival Winter Gear Drive (which you can learn more about by emailing [email redacted] or by following our Instagram New Haven Housing Fund) as well as in the space of DESK (Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen) to fund & start new projects in partnership with our unhoused neighbors and other local community organizations with a stake in housing justice. The fund money will be distributed transparently in a way that can be seen on our Instagram and Facebook pages (NHHF Network) where we will keep you updated on our new projects.
We also seek to be a network of people to support each other and the unhoused community in the ways that we can. If you’d like to get involved, sign up here. We also suggest volunteering at spaces like DESK, which you can sign up for here as a one-time commitment & here as a recurring commitment.
The programs we’d like to use the funding for include, but aren’t limited to:
Phones, chargers, portable batteries
Shoes & clothes that are very small or very large
Trans & queer-specific items
Winter coats & boots & clothes
Tents, canopies, tarps, sleeping bags
Re-entry packages & needs
Other low-cost items or needs that aren’t covered by other organizations in the city
