Hi My Name is Anthony Diaz and I am one of the co founders of the Newark Water Coalition is an advocacy group that has declared the Newark water contamination crisis a public health emergency. The coalition is working together to inform and educate the residents and other consumers about the dangers and ailments that are associated with the contaminates in the water. The coalition is calling on our government stakeholders, healthcare providers, faith and community-based organizations to make this public health crisis a priority, allocate the adequate funding to fix our infrastructure, test our people and provide clean water for all!
The coalition started in December of 2018 and has put on various events in the community. The NWC has done teach ins to offer a different narrative than what is coming out of the city of Newark. Our main purpose is to educate the residents and mobilize them into organizing their communities to demand CLEAN WATER FOR NEWARK! Our government has failed us and it is up to the residents to hold them accountable!
The NWC is using funds collected here to purchase point of entry filters and high end point of use filters. Point of entry filters are ones that connect to the entire water supply for a house hold. The Point of use filters are like your Brita and Pur filters that are pitchers or faucet. We want to purchase pitchers to avoid human error and to avoid folks running hot water through their filter.
The money the Newark Water Coalition raises will also go to start producing our own educational material for canvassing. The Newark Water Coalition believes the only way to win this is people power. We have been putting on teach ins and doing presentations at local meetings. We need materials translated and simplified so people can easily digest.

Our 2nd biggest cost is water. We prefer to go the first route because it is more sustainable. Every Saturday the NWC does a free water distribution at St Lucy's Church. We operate from the hours of 12pm to 5pm. We have been doing this for a month now and every week we have served a minimum of 300 families!!! We give out cases or gallons of water that have been donated. If we do not receive enough donations during the week, we go out and purchase water for the distribution using the funds from this Go Fund Me.
The Newark Water Coalition gets the funds directly put onto a card that is tied to an account used strickly for the Newark Water Coalition.
